Meet the Chief
Welcome to your University Place Police Department website. I am Greg Premo and I am honored to serve as your Chief of Police.
I am a long-time resident of Pierce County. I grew up in the Puyallup/Tacoma area, graduating from Franklin Pierce High School. I attended Pierce College and then Central Washington University where I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Law and Justice.
In 1994, I began my career in law enforcement with the Pierce County Sheriff's Department. I have worked as a patrol deputy in many communities throughout Pierce County. I have also held the position of K-9 handler and Civil Deputy before being promoted to Sergeant in 2007. I was promoted to Lieutenant in 2018 just prior to taking the position of Chief of Police in University Place in May 2019.
This is my third time working in University Place. I was a member of the inaugural University Place Police Department as a Deputy in January 1996. I returned to University Place in 2009 as a Patrol Sergeant. As the sergeant, I was able to work with City staff and community members on various public safety projects. I saw firsthand the commitment that both City staff and community members had towards making University Place a community where people wanted to live, work and visit. I am excited to be back as the Chief to continue working with this great community.
University Place values public safety and supports their police department. The connection between the police and the community is very strong and I look forward to building on the partnership that has been forged over the years.
Feel free to contact me if you have questions about the department or public safety in University Place. I look forward to working together.
Best Regards,
Greg Premo, Chief of Police
