Dispose of Medications Properly

Don’t let unused or old medications fall into the wrong hands. Items such as prescription and over-the-counter medications, medication samples, veterinary medications and controlled substances can be dropped in medication disposal boxes throughout U.P.:

University Place Police Department

Lobby open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (closed for lunch noon to 1 p.m.).


U.P. Pharmacy

7311 40th St. W. | 253.448.2460

Open Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Closed weekends.


Walgreens

2650 Bridgeport Way W. | 253.564.0351

Open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.


Rite Aid

3840 Bridgeport Way W. | 253.564.2255

Open Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.


The Safe Medication Return program is funded by the drug industry and provides kiosks and postage-paid return envelopes for disposal of unwanted medicine. 


See what items are accepted or not in the prescription drop boxes.


Accepted Items

  • Medications in any dosage form (except those listed below)
  • Must be in original container or sealed bag

Not Accepted

  • Herbal remedies & homeopathic drugs
  • Vitamins, minerals & supplements
  • Cosmetics, shampoos, sunscreens, lip balm, toothpaste, antiperspirants & other personal care items
  • Biological drug products
  • Drugs administered in a clinical setting
  • Emptied injector products or medical devices
  • Exposed needles or sharps
  • Pet pesticide products
  • Batteries
  • Mercury-containing thermometers
  • Illicit drugs
