U.P. Police and West Pierce Fire & Rescue will vie for the title of Chili Champion at a benefit Chili Cook Off and Concert Fundraiser on Thursday, August 22, followed by a concert featuring The Neon Mustang!

Teens & Drugs

When it comes to teenagers and drug use, ignorance is not bliss. Parents need to know the dangers that our kids face every day, not just for illegal drugs, but from household chemicals, peer pressure to participate in internet “dares,” and more. Deputy J Sousley is a drug recognition expert and will share his experience so parents can recognize the signs and symptoms of drug use and learn more about the latest trends in drug use among teens.

This session will allow for ample Q&A time.

Hostile Encounters

Join instructor Officer Dan Hacker for a free Hostile Encounters Public Safety Course! This will be beneficial for older children, who have more freedom to be out on their own. Whether at the mall or the movies, this class will show participants how to prevent and defuse hostile encounters, while also mastering techniques to survive encounters they can’t avoid.

Learn valuable tips on how to de-escalate difficult situations that might range from simply dealing with someone who is argumentative to protecting yourself in an active shooter encounter.

Pierce County Council meeting coming to University Place

In an effort to make government more accessible, the Pierce County Council brings its weekly meeting to various locations across the County several times each year.

Residents are invited to attend when Councilmember Connie Ladenburg hosts the Council meeting on April 16 at 6 p.m. at the Environmental Services Building, located at 9850 64th Street West. University Place is part of Councilmember Ladenburg’s district 4.

Cider Squeeze

The Curran Apple Orchard Cider Squeeze is another orchard-related activity - and this year it takes place on August 25, 2019 from noon to 4 p.m.

Crunchy red apples and delicious golden cider are among the highlights at the annual squeeze.Toss apples into old fashioned cider presses, meet The Big Apple and Johnny Appleseed and enjoy bluegrass music at this long-time FREE U.P. tradition.

Community Connection Place "Camp Connection"

Camp Connection will take place from June 24 to August 16 at Evergreen Primary. Hours are from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Registration fee is $60, and the weekly rate is $160 per week/per child.
