Spring Arts & Concert Series

Dynamic artists and musicians will absolutely delight audiences in the upcoming Spring Arts & Concert Series sponsored by UP for Arts.  Please join us in the UP Civic/Library Atrium from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on three Fridays this spring.

This last session's artists include:

April 24          Goldsmith Designer Sacha Van DeZande with
Pianists Oksana Ezhokina and Christina Dahl.

Sacha received a Bachelor’s in Art with a focus in metals from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and co-created the annual GSR Fine Art Festival in Minnesota. As a goldsmith, she specializes in custom designs and one of a kind works. “I am intrigued by lines and how a slight change in a curve can transform a piece.” She also incorporates “green” techniques by using metals which are refined from 100%  reclaimed, recycled  “old gold” vs. newly mined gold along with using fair trade gems. “I strive to create designs that are pleasant to look at, comfortable to wear and sturdy enough to withstand the lives that we lead.“

Renowned Pianists Oksana Ezhokina and Christina Dahl will team up for a special evening of  duets including works by Mozart, (a two piano arrangement of his 40th Symphony), Stravinsky and Rachmaninoff. Dr Ezhokina is currently serving as chair of piano studies at PLU. She recently delighted audiences in a performance of Beethoven’s first Piano Concerto with the Tacoma Symphony and has soloed with many acclaimed orchestras including the St. Petersburg Philharmonic in Russia.

Christina Dahl has established a reputation as one of the leading teachers of her generation. She has worked in New York’s Stony Brook University in the graduate music department for 20 years where she taught chamber music with the famed Emerson String Quartet.  Since childhood her focus has been on chamber music and she can be heard on many classical recordings.  She has twice been a cultural ambassador of the US State Department in which she has toured and taught in Africa, South America and the U.S.
