Spring Arts & Concert Series

Dynamic artists and musicians will absolutely delight audiences in the upcoming Spring Arts & Concert Series sponsored by UP for Arts.  Please join us in the UP Civic/Library Atrium from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on three Fridays this spring, in February, March and April.

The artists this month include:

Feb. 27            Fused Glass Artist Nancy Corey and
Singer Jordan Corbin and Pianist Kristina Henckel

Nancy Corey is primarily a self-taught artist whose first introduction to glass fusing occurred through a two day Parks and Recreation class. After taking short classes geared toward techniques or style, she strove to put her own touch on each piece. “I’ve had some happy accidents by putting my twist on something taught in a class. My style started out more Asian oriented, and I am still drawn to the simplicity of this style; however, abstract also has great appeal.” Her work has appeared in several juried art shows along with being shown at Gallery Row in Gig Harbor and Blue Water Art and Framing in Poulsbo.

An extraordinary coloratura soprano as well as a composer, Jordan Corbin began her career in Europe where she studied with some of the most sought after names in Opera.  She returned to the States where in New York, she starred in over 40 roles ranging from Violetta in Traviata to Musetta in La Boheme.  She now teaches classical voice in Shoreline along with coaching bands on Saturday Night Live and American Idol contestants on "Good Morning America."  Jordan will be featuring one of her own compositions, "A Zen Song Cycle."

Kristina Henckel  grew up playing piano in the Czech Republic where she graduated with a master’s in Piano Performance. A phenomenal talent, she has been awarded prizes in many piano competitions including the Chopin International Piano Competition. A veteran of the US Army, she played with the Army Band as the featured soloist until beginning her doctoral work at the University of Oklahoma. She now teaches piano at Pierce College and resides in Dupont with her family.
