Pierce County Sheriff's Community Academy

Classes will start Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016 and will meet once a week from 7 to 9:30 p.m. for 10 weeks. Classes are limited in size to 27 persons and will be held at the police station located at 3609 Market Place W Suite 201, University Place, 2nd floor in the Library/Civic Building.

The Community Academy course is designed to familiarize the public with all aspects of the Sheriff’s Department and provide citizens with some insight into the practices of law enforcement and the criminal justice system. The academy also affords an opportunity to meet the Sheriff and other members of the department. The classes cover constitutional law, procedures of patrol deputies, detectives, internal investigations, narcotics, K-9, domestic violence and other topics. Field trips are scheduled to the 9-1-1 Communications Center and Jail. The academy is free of charge and is open to citizens 16 years old and over living in Pierce County.
