Cloudy days couldn't keep the ducks away

One of our community’s most popular springtime celebration, the annual Duck Daze Parade, took place for the 17th year in a row on Saturday, June 2 along Bridgeport Way West. The weather was mild but the joy was plenty as crowds of families and friends lined the parade route to enjoy the various parade marchers commemorate the end of the rainy season.

Nearly 700 individuals participated in the parade, some of whom included the Curtis High School marching band, the 16th Combat Aviation Brigade, City Council Members in Corvettes provided by a local club, fire trucks courtesy of West Pierce Fire, local businesses, Disney Princesses and so much more all decked out in yellow duck-ware!

Following the parade the UPTown Cruisin’ Car Show was the biggest one yet, with over 160 vehicles overflowing in Windmill Village and onto Drexler Drive. This year’s “Best in Show” Award was a tie between a 1969 Chevy Camaro Z38 owned by Frank Perales and a 1937 Chevy Coupe owned by Alan Verme.

At West Pierce Fire Station 31, you could find activities for the whole family, including the competitive watermelon eating contest for all ages, life jacket and helmet fittings, and games. 1500 free hot dogs were served by 1 p.m.,

The City would like to extend a big “Thank You” to all of the 2017 participants who helped make this annual community event such an enormous success, as well as Cutters Point, Baja Burrito, Windermere Professional Partners, Subway #6419, Bartell Drug Company, Spataro’s Bella Tans DBA Desert Sun and Gorgeous Nails III for their support of the parade!
