Capital Strategy Task Force -

Then and Now:
In 1996, the year after the City was incorporated, there was 1,300 linear feet of sidewalk and 52 streetlights. We now have 43,900 linear feet (17 miles) of sidewalk, 896 streetlights and have installed 6 miles of new pipe along with 127 catch basins using city staff. Both
Bridgeport
and
Grandview
did not have sidewalks, forcing pedestrians into traffic lanes to get around light poles. Not only did these improvements aid in safety but it has been very beneficial in giving our City a visual signature.
Capital Improvement Plans:
The difference between Neighborhood Capital Improvement Program (NCIP) and the larger Capital Improvement Program (CIP) is the size and the funding for each program. The Neighborhood Capital Improvement Program is used for smaller neighborhood type projects usually less than $30,000.00. These projects are brought to our attention by citizen requests and needs identified by the Public Works crew. Each fall this list is prioritized based on the basis of possible property damage and the impact or benefit to the neighborhood for the money spent. The Capital Improvement Program is for the larger projects and they are identified in the 6 Year Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP). These projects have included the rebuilds to
Grandview Drive
,
Cirque Drive
and
Bridgeport Way
.
Cost of Improvements:
Listed below are just some of the costs involved with improvements in the City:
- Street lights - Cobra head on wooden pole $4,000 each, Decorative $6,000 each. These are placed every 200 feet.
- Sidewalks - $100 per linear foot.
- Street rebuilds -
Grandview
style $500 per linear foot,
Bridgeport
style $1,000 per linear foot.
