Community Opportunities

Adopt A Street/Park
City of University Place Volunteer organizations, families or communities are encouraged to take an active role in the community by adopting a local street. Minimum adoption requirements are the adoption of two lane miles, one pick-up per quarter with additional pickups as needed, and an agreement commitment of two years. If you participate, you will have two signs of recognition planted in your honor to let University Place residents and friends know how much you care. The Adriana Hess Wetland Park
has many opportunities for volunteers to help with planting parties and other park projects. The Tacoma Audubon Society, located at this park, is also in need of volunteers for various community service projects.

Patron of Beautification
Interested parties can donate to a variety of beautification projects within the City. Donations of $10, $25 or $50 can help purchase park benches, refuse cans, decorative lighting etc. For more information contact Marian Holloway, (253) 460-2500 or fill out this form and return with your check. We would like to thank our existing "Patrons of Beautification."

TCurran Apple Orchardhe Curran Apple Orchard

Utilizes volunteers for the pruning of all apple trees within the orchard and for other similar projects. The Orchard committee always welcomes new members and enthusiastic volunteers.

Friends of Homestead Park
This group meets (as needed) for planting, planning and pleasure! The group assists with planting and development of Homestead Park, a two acre park adjacent to City Hall, 3715 Bridgeport Way W. The completed park will include a rhododendron garden, a natural fern grotto, memorial garden and water features.

Parks and Recreation Volunteer Opportunities
There are many volunteer opportunities available within the Parks and Recreation Division. The success of our youth sports programs rely heavily on the dedication of volunteer coaches. Coaches are always in demand for baseball, basketball, flag football and indoor soccer. Please contact Brason Alexander at (253)460-540 for more information.

Senior Meals
Y
ou can help the Catholic Community Services and the City of University Place provide deliciouSenior Mealss and nutritious lunches to seniors at the U.P. Senior Center. This lunch program operates solely on volunteers. Come join the fun and enjoy a free lunch for your time! Flexible hours and a variety of jobs await you at this rewarding program (i.e. table setters, servers, clean-up and dishwashers) Call Jennifer Robinson at (253) 564-1992 for more information.

SUNDogs
Dedicated to providing a Safe, Unleashed and Natural Dog Park on the Chambers Creek Properties In University Place. SUNDogs meets the third Wednesday of each month at UP Presbyterian Church, 8101 27th St W, University Place at 7 p.m. Contact Jeff Yost or Bill Long at (253) 564-8677 for more information or visit the SUNDogs website.

UP for Art
Is a local organization dedicated to bringing public art to University Place.
The group this year purchased its first outdoor sculpture. Anyone who is interested in public art is invited to join. For more infomation contact Patricia Lebbert at (253) 460-0137 or visit the UP For Art website.

University Place Historic Society
If you enjoy history and would like to help research, collect and document the history of University Place, think about joining the University Place Historic Society. Group meets monthly at City Hall, 3715 Bridgeport Way W. Call for more information.

Tribute Rhododendron Garden
Honor a special person by purchasing a beautiful rhododendron to be planted in the Tribute Garden of Homestead Park.Purchase of a Tribute Rhodedondron is $95.00, and includes an engraved plaque with a personalized inscription written by you! Simply fill out this form!

This purchase can also be made on-line by accessing the City's Parks & Rec registration program.

Community Accountability Board
The City of University Place in conjunction with Pierce County Juvenile Court is seeking civic minded individuals who are interested in the future of this town and feel a strong compassion and commitment to our youth. Volunteers should be 16 years of age and above and be willing to spend two nights a month participating as members of a Community Accountability Board (CAB).

The University Place CAB meets at 6:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month in the City Hall Council Chambers. This will entail meeting with youthful first time minor offenders and their parents in order to develop a Diversion Agreement that holds the youth accountable for their offense.
