What is the Event Calendar?
The Event Calendar is a dynamic tool that lists upcoming events that are happening within the City of University Place. You can access it from the home page in several ways. By either clicking on the blue, left hand navigation bar titled Event Calendar, by clicking on a day within the Calendar itself, Searching the Calendar and/or selecting one of the Upcoming Events that are listed on the home page.
Why register?
Registered citizens have the choice to customize the Event Calendar.
Do I have to register to view the Event Calendar?
No. However, you will not be able to customize the Event Calendar.
How do I register?
Registering is quick and easy.
- Start by clicking the Register/Customize link on the blue, left-hand navigation bar.
- Enter your e-mail address.
- Choose which Event Types you would like to have listed in your Event Calendar (note: the default is set to show all events).
- Click Update to save all changes. You will know your registeration was successful when you see the text at the top of the screen in the light blue bar that reads "Hello YourEmailAddress@email.com."
- The Event Calendar will now show only those Event Types in which you selected to have shown. At any time you can go back and change these settings.
Why do I have to provide my email address?
Email addresses are collected so that future enhancements to the system, which will include the ability to set up email notifications to citizens of events, will be easily implemented.
What if there are multiple people using the same computer?
This question only applies to those who have registered:
Scenario: Person A registers with the e-mail address of PersonA@e-mail.com and chooses to only show Parks and Rec information on the Event Calendar. Person B also lives in the same household so when they visit the City website they only see Parks and Rec information because Person A registered first and choose to only see the Parks and Recreation Events. Therefore, Person B could be missing out on seeing information that is important to them because Person A had already customized the Event Calendar.
Scenario Solution: If Person B has their own e-mail address they need to register with their e-mail address, then they will be able to customize the Event Calendar. After doing so, there will be more than one person who has registered using the same computer. Therefore, every time Person A or Person B visits the City website they need to select the Register/Customize link on the blue, left-hand navigation bar and select "Change User" and enter their e-mail address. This way, they will always be ensured that their chosen information is viewable on the Event Calendar.
If Person B doesn't have an e-mail address then it would be wise for Person A to be sure they choose to show all events on the Event Calendar so that all people who visit the site from that household /computer will see everything that is going on in the City.
