Senior Services

Senior Scholarship Program:
The city of University Place is now offering Scholarships for seniors, ages 61+, for some activities and trips. If you are interested, please contact Jennifer Robinson at (253) 564-1992 or JRobinson@cityofup.com for an application and qualification details.

Bridge Challenge/Pinochle:
Drop in for a challenging game of Bridge or have a great time playing Pinochle with new friends! Bridge is played on Monday & Tuesday from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m., and Pinochle is played on Mondays from 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and Fridays from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. Groups of four are formed the day of, everyone guaranteed to play! Coffee provided.

Arts, Crafts and Hobbies:
Bring your own art, craft or hobby projects to work on with others with similar talents and interests. Coffee provided. Bring a lunch to enjoy while you create your own masterpiece! Arts & crafts are on Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Bingo:
Arrive early to the senior lunch and have a great time playing bingo from 10 - 11:30 am. Prizes provided, occasional white elephant bingo. Coffee provided. Callers always welcome.

Senior Foot Care:
This is a visiting health care service for seniors and others who want routine nail care for their feet. R.N.'s and L.P.N.'s provide all foot care. $27 (Pay Nurse) The footcare program is held the 1st Wednesday of each month. Call (253) 564-1992 for an appointment. For additional footcare locations and times call (253) 848-9625 Please pay at time of service.

AARP Driver Safety Program:
Develop safe defensive driving techniques. Certification of completion applies toward a discount on your car insurance. Please call to reserve a spot. Instruction by AARP, please pay the instructor the day of class. Class begins promptly please arrive 10 minutes early. Classes are offered quarterly, call (253) 564-1992 for specific times & dates.

Catholic Community Services Senior Lunch Program:
Lunch is offered at noon on Tuesday's and Friday's. Please make reservations three working days prior to attending by calling (253) 564-1992. $2.50 suggested donation provides a nutritious and delicious meal. This program is a great way to enjoy a wonderful meal with others, and make new friends.

UP Connection:

Call (253) 564-1992 to be added to our mailing list. We will keep you updated with our programs, social activities, fitness classes, and trips & travel. This is the best way to stay connected with the UP Senior Center!

Bunco:
Bunco group meets the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Bring a snack to share and come enjoy this fun, easy to learn social game. Bunco is a game of chance, you don't have to know the game or worry about being "good" at it. Plan to laugh and enjoy the company of others over this fun and simple game! Beginners wecome!

Stay Active and Independent for Life fitness class:
SAIL is designed to help individuals of all ages and activity levels gain strength and balance while increasing aerobic ability and overall health. This unique program was created by Falls Prevention Coalition to help aging adults reduce falls through increased balance. Variations of each exercise are available to meet your individual ability level. The instructior is specifically trained for this program. The class is fun! Come prepared to become healthier while making new friends.

Classes meet on Monday & Wednesday from 10:20 - 11:20 a.m. at City Hall in building A-3. Session runs for 4 weeks, $30 per session or $5 per class. Equipment is provided. Wear comfortable clothing.

Free Programs:
FREE programs are now being offered in the following categories - Fitness, Arts & Culture, transportation.

Our Shuttle UP program will provide free transportation to and from the senior center on meal site days. Also offered is shopping trips to local shopping centers. You will be picked up from your home and brought back to your home at no charge!
