Excited young girls in ruffles and lace wearing wrist corsages and bright smiles hung on the arms of proud fathers the night before Valentine's Day as University Place hosted its first Daddy-Daughter Dance in the Town Hall. A date with Dad was made more special yet as a professional photographer captured the father-daughter duos and sometimes trios on film.
On the dance floor, the youngest swayed to and fro cradled in Daddy's arms. Those just learning made use of Daddy's toes to learn the steps while the older girls quickly worked Dear Old Dad into a sweat dancing song after song. At tables draped in pink cloths, dads and daughters shared cookies, punch and good conversation enjoying the chance to spend quality time with each other on a special night.
More than 90 people attended the event, which was organized by the City's Parks and Recreation Department and staffed by two city employees and eight UP Youth Council members. The music and dancing lasted from seven in the evening until just past nine. Recreation Supervisor Jennifer Robinson said the evening went off without a hitch and "everyone had a really good time."
